MISHAWAKA,— Wayne Clayton, owner of SocialMarketingExpert.org, (@SocialMtgExpert) provides business building campaigns using Social Media Marketing to small to mid-sized companies worldwide; However, even being a “power Twitter user” and active on Facebook, there was one thing he had never done…that was attend a TweetUp.
“A TweetUp is a meet-up or meeting ‘IRL’ (in real life) that is hosted in a location by people who are linked by some social networking site like Twitter or Facebook. If it’s Twitter, then peopl are told and invited using the 140-character tweets. Next is what shows the power of social media when the message goes ‘viral’ using other social media sitres, emails and word-of-mouth,” said Clayton. “Frankly I felt a little weird being heavily engaged in various aspects of Social Media Marketing, but yet not knowing what a TweetUp was personally. That’s when I decided to search. There had to be someone in Michiana who if they hadn’t started a TweetUp, would at least be interested in forming and starting a Michiana TweetUp with me.
Within the week there was a handful of other Twitter and Facebook users interested in starting a MichianaTweetUP. Michelle Ottman (@michelleottman) is a New Product Manager with The South Bend Tribune, Stacy Grove, a local Realtor (@MichianaRealtor), Heather Hosterman (@HHosterman) a Marketing Coordinator with Mid-City Supply in Elkhart and Brent Ferguson (@webmaster_ref) who is a Reference Librarian & Webmaster with the Elkhart Public Library all attended that first meeting with me,” he continued. “We had incredible support right from the beginning and knew it was something that had to be done now. The timing was right.”
“Those who attend a MichianaTweetUP will quickly find it to be a fun networking event. It’s hard to find a better way to talk to people using Social Media in their careers and business, and find out how Social Media is helping those local Michiana businesses get a competitive edge,” said Clayton.
The first MichianaTweetUP (@MichiaanTweetUp) is open to the general public, with no admission fee. The date is Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gino’s East of Chicago Pizza in the Heritage Square Plaza in Granger Indiana.
